Does an email stand up as a written agreement?
In May I bought 2 tickets to a convention taking place in November. A month later my boyfriend was offered a new job & was unable to attend the con. We had not been charged yet. The con had a no refund/transfer policy, but the organizer offered to cancel his ticket anyway.
The tickets were set up with a pay half now-half later. When the card got charged though, I was charged for the first half of two tickets. I emailed the organizer again & he said it was a mistake & that I was all set & my ticket was paid for & that my boyfriend's ticket was indeed canceled. In October, I got billed for both second half tickets. I got a snotty message from the organizer saying it was against the terms & agreements for me to cancel in the first place but that he would reverse the charges.
My question is, if he DOESN'T reverse the charges, would the emails he sent offering to cancel the ticket be considered a written agreement or could he still charge me for the tickets technically?
Call your financial institution and inform them of the situation. #1 you may have to cancel your credit/debit card and get a new one to stop the second half charges. #2 they may also reimburse you the amount of the first half of the tickets. #3 They will "stop payment' before it charges you. If the person has already taken the money, the financial institution, will seek reimbursement from them...hence the FDIC.
