The Jargon of Wakeboarding

What is language for if not lend color to words or to use the words colorfully. Anything that kindles a passion in people generally and in a group in particular will give rise to new words that could aptly describe some act bringing a smile to who hears the glossary of words but also make them marvel at the ingenuity of the manipulator of the word. Wakeboarding was a new phenomenon two decades ago and it was not long before the sport begot so many colorful new words.

They at once provided meaning and uniqueness to the sport as it stood alone from other sport. The attitude of the adherents, their style, their dare-devil mental make-up all got reflected in these words. The culture of wakeboarding and its reach are all there for the discerning people to enjoy those words. We are even sure that the many intrepid people had entered the realm of wakeboarding after listening to the words describing the sport and its adventurous spirit.  Or, the game would not have gained so much popularity to be included in X games.

Some of these words may sound funny but remember that is how they wanted them to sound.  Bone Out a grab, otherwise known as bone out your leg denote straightening yourself as much as you can. So you can claim that you had bone out grab when you grabbed while straightening out. "Mobe" or "Mobius" is when you can spin 360 degrees and do a full circle. Bonk is when you brush against or hit an obstacle. Monkey spin is the name when the board rises up to shoulder and vertical axis is abandoned by the rider while he is executing a spin. You "Jib" if you hit a dock, rail or slider. "Bunny Hop" is another name for "Ollie". An edge over edge maneuver is carried out while rotating during an invert, you say you have performed a "Roll".  After approaching the wake, if you allow yourself to be tripped by the wake that ends in your doing an inverted motion, you have just shown how a "Trip Flip" is done.

There sure will be more coinages which you will know as time goes by.
